Huá Chuán Gē
(The Paddling Song)
Traditional Chinese Nursery Rhyme
Music by Xu Hong Shuai

This is a Chinese nursery rhyme.  The music for this rhyme is used to focus on the note do. The words “yi yi ai ai” are the sounds of the wood creaking when the paddles are working.  See the two videos below for how I learned to sing the song and for pronunciation of the text.

Pinyin Version

Nǐ huá jiǎng, wǒ huá jiǎng,
y
ī yī ài ài guò xiǎo qiáo.
J
īng guò xiǎo qiáo dào wǒ jiā,
m
ā ma kàn jian jiù xiào xiao.

English Translation

You row the paddles
I row the paddles
Passing under the bridge to reach my home.
When my mom saw us she smiled.

Chinese Text

划船歌
你划桨,我划桨,依依嗳嗳过⼩小桥。 经过⼩小桥到我家,妈妈看⻅见就笑笑。
