About the Chinese Folk Songs Project
The Chinese Folk Songs Project is the work of Kim Friesen Wiens. Kim began her journey into the study of Chinese music in 2006. Kim teaches music at a Mandarin bilingual elementary school in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Her passion for culturally responsive music education lead to her taking courses in Chinese music at universities in Canada and China.
Kim started this Chinese folk project in 2015, travelling to China extensively, staying at an elementary school in Shandong Province, and working with local teachers to collect songs that she could transcribe for English speakers. |
